Types Of Intra Ocular Lenses

Monofocal: glasses needed for reading
Toric: those who have astigmatism. Needs glasses for reading
Multifocal: the range and quality of vision is better. Distant, intermediate,near vision is good. least need of glasses
Extended depth of focus lens: the range and quality of vision is better. Distant, intermediate,near vision is good. Additionally no glare at night. Least need of glasses

Surgical Technique Brief Information :

Phaco :

It is the commonly chosen surgery method by patients and doctors. Phacoemulsification cataract surgery is a procedure in which an ultrasonic device is used to break up and then remove a cloudy lens, or cataract, from the eye to improve vision. The insertion of an intraocular lens (IOL) usually immediately follows phacoemulsification.

- When to get cataract surgery done ?

- What is aspheric lens?

The intra ocular lens implanted after cataract is aspheric or spheric. Aspheric lens reduce aberration. Showing picture how is the vision after sphtheric and ashpheric lens implant. Asphtheric type of lenses give better results for night driving.

- What is multifocal lens?

All persons get reading glasses after age of 40. So One can imagine a number for reading and a number for distant viewing. When multifocal lens is implanted after cataract, both visions needs are fulfilled. Additionally intermediate distance is also seen. Need for reading glasses is the least with these type of lens implant.

- Do all person need glasses after surgery ?

Person with multifocal or elongated focal length do not need glasses. Monofocal lens implant persons need glasses for reading. Also those with cylindrical number need glasses. Those who opt for toric-cylindrical lens donot need glasses for distance.

- If I rub my eye will my lens come out? ?

One should not rub eyes immediate post op period for 4-6 weeks. Normally rubbing will not cause lens to move and come out as it is implanted lens inside the eye. Contact lenses which are placed on cornea can come out with rubbing but not the lenses used in cataract surgery.
